The purpose of our resource center is to provide education and awareness of the nature and extent of problems related to alcohol, tobacco, drugs and other addictions, including how these problems affect individuals, families, and communities, and what resources are available in the county. The resource center maintains a video, pamphlet/brochure, and book loan library which covers various topics such as: substance abuse in the workplace, AIDS/HIV, family issues, tobacco, intoxicated driving, and other related topics pertaining to addiction, mental health, and wellness. This facility is useful for individual research and information, as well as county-based organizations requesting quantities of materials for distribution. Regardless of purpose of inquiry, the use of the Somerset Council Resource Center allows for an easy and convenient research experience for all!

There is typically a limit of 15 of each item on orders from our resource center. If your needs exceed this limit, we can make a special order which usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks. Unfortunately, our budget does not allow for us to freely distribute all pamphlets, but we would be happy to help you obtain these materials for the list price. For some pamphlets in this guide, the Council will require a fee ranging from .50 to .95 per item, depending on the price we are required to pay.

If you need quantities of materials, please come to the Somerset Council office at 34 West Main Street, Suite 307, in Somerville to make arrangements or call (908) 722-4900. If you need only a small amount of information, it can easily be mailed to you.

Copies of books and videos are more limited, but these materials are still available to the public on a loan basis. Videos may be borrowed for one week and books may be borrowed for two weeks. To borrow a book or video, please come to the Somerset Council and complete a borrower's contract (a copy of this form is included on page 3). If you are interested in owning a copy of a book or video that is highlighted in bold print in this guide, we may be able to order one for you free of charge (allow 4 to 6 weeks) or advise you on how to obtain a copy. If you are unsure of the necessary procedures for obtaining the materials you need, or if you have special needs or concerns, please call the Somerset Council at (908) 722-4900.

This Resource Guide includes all of the materials available in our resource center as of September 1997. We are continuously adding new materials to our collection, so if there is any topic or specific title of interest that is not included in this guide, please call the Somerset Council at (908) 722-4900.
