Prevention & Education Services

The Somerset Council's goal is to provide current, accurate information and education on all aspects of alcohol and drug dependence to community groups and to encourage them to join in the efforts of prevention. We have developed a broad range of programs to meet the diverse needs of Somerset County residents and professionals.

Technical Assistance

Prevention Specialists at the Somerset Council are available to provide consultation, training and program development to educators, service providers and community volunteers working on prevention projects. Prevention Specialists can assist with locating scientifically based curricula, provide supporting resource materials, and suggesting activities and strategies to enhance your program.

Advocacy

The Somerset Council can be available to help alert local and state legislators on issues in the field of alcoholism and other drug addictions.

Special Populations and Persons with Disabilities

The Somerset Council provides programs for people with disabilities, senior citizens, high-risk youth and their families. The Somerset Council office, located at 34 W. Main Street, Suite 307, Somerville, NJ is in a handicap accessible building. All off-site Somerset Council functions are held in handicap accessible locations.

Employee Assistance Program

We offer a comprehensive, confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that provides managers and employees with the resources they need to deal effectively with personal or work related problems & issues. This service increases productivity, reduces turnover and improves morale. Counseling for employees and their family members is available for issues such as alcohol & drug abuse, confidential assessment’s, referral resources, relationship issues, stress management, marital conflict & financial planning.

Community Education & Speakers

Staff from the Somerset Council present programs to schools and community groups interested in learning about various topics; especially alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Programs are tailored to each groups needs. Trainings and workshops are easily modified to meet the specific needs of the target audience. When unable to provide a service themselves, Prevention Specialists at Somerset Council make every effort to refer out to the appropriate resource and provide support through technical assistance.

Substance Abuse Evaluations

The Council staff includes professionals who offer substance abuse evaluations for individuals or families concerning alcohol and other drug related problems. Although Somerset Council does not offer follow-up treatment, our professional staff will assist in locating the most appropriate treatment program.
